On 28 October 2011, the final project meeting took place in Bonn. The EUGENE project consortium extends its sincere thanks to the European Commission, the EU GEO High-Level Working Group, and all other organisations and individuals that contributed to the work of EUGENE.

On 26 October 2011, the EUGENE project coordinator gave a final presentation to the EU GEO High-Level Working Group (HLWG).

A EUGENE paper was presented on the occasion of the 34th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment on 11 April 2011 in Sydney. The paper is called "European Earth Observation Priorities and Challenges in the GEOSS Era - Results of the Project Eugene". More...

EUGENE presented its work on the occasion of the 2010 GEO Plenary and Ministerial Summit in Beijing on the "Europe for GEOSS" exhibition stand. Additionally, Günter Strunz (DLR), EUGENE's Disasters work package leader, provided a talk on the GMES Emergency Response Service. Visitors of the stand were provided with a new EUGENE brochure.

The EUGENE Status Quo Reports and the EUGENE Workshop Reports (reports on Climate by EUMETSAT, reports on Disasters by DLR, reports on Water by University of Bonn) have been finalised. They can be accessed here...

The EUGENE European GEOSS workshop on the Societal Benefit Area of Disasters has taken place on 1st of June at the DLR Bureau in Brussels. The workshop was attended by numerous participants representing European and global organisations (UN SPIDER, GMES Bureau, GMES SAFER project, EEA, ECMWF, GEO Secretariat, GEO Geohazards Community of Practice etc.) as well as the EC and some national organisations. A draft report of the European status quo in Earth observations related to Disasters was reviewed. Furthermore, discussions were held on achievements, collaboration and problems in disaster management, and on the relationship between GMES and GEO. The finalised status quo report and a workshop report will be made publicly available in the course of summer 2010.

The EUGENE European GEOSS workshop on the Societal Benefit Area of Water has taken place on 11th/12th of May at BfG in Koblenz. Participants from European organisations like JRC and EEA, national institutes involved in observations of elements of the Water Cycle as well as representatives of the GMES Geoland2 project and from EC, the GEO Secretariat etc came together to review a draft report of the European status quo in earth observations related to Water. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the European collaboration in the water area and Europe's contributions to GEO. The finalised status quo report and a workshop report will be made publicly available in the course of summer 2010.

The EUGENE European GEOSS workshop on the Societal Benefit Area of Climate has taken place on 26th/27th of April at EUMETSAT Headquarters. Participants from European organisations/institutions like ESA, EUMETNET, EEA, JRC, GMES Bureau as well as national institutes involved in climate observations reviewed a draft report on the European status quo in earth observations related to climate. Furthermore, a strategic discussion was held regarding the European collaboration in the climate area and Europe's contributions to GEO. The finalised status quo report and a workshop report will be made publicly available in the course of summer 2010.

The first EUGENE Project Review Meeting has taken place on 25th of March. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress made during the first 6 months, and to review two milestones due at the end March.

A Meeting of the European GEO High Level Working Group (HLWG) took place on 16th of March in Brussels. EUGENE gave a presentation on the status of the project to the HLWG, which is supposed to act as an advisory body to the project.

EUGENE's Kick-off Meeting was held on 5th of October 2009, and project works have been started.
